Amazing X-Men

Amazing X-Men, an other comic book series about the X-Men ?! What could be different this time, after X-Men, Wolverine & the X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, All New X-Men ? For starters, Jason Aaron, the author, used to be the writer of Wolverine & the X-Men at the same time, so he knew which characters he could or couldn’t use, their physical and psychological evolution … Secondly, after his run of six episodes, Jason Aaron handed over the series to Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost, who have been collaborating for a long time now. So if this is not a promise to good stories, I don’t know what is. Finally, the leader artist of this series is a well-known artist in he comic book world, Ed McGuinness, who’ll work on the upcoming series Drax, a new comic book following the Secret Wars‘ events.

Supernatural could be the key word for this X-Men’s series. First, they “rescued” Nightcrawler and brought him back on Earth, with some tragic consequences ; then, they had to deal with an army of Wendigo whom invaded Canada, Northstar’s homeland. For their last adventure, they faced a long-lost threat, Cyttorak and his avatar, Juggernaut.

Once and future Juggernaut (Amazing X-Men #13-19)

If the Once and future Juggernaut‘s arc runs from episodes #15 to #19, the first two episodes are like one-shots, focused on two X-Men : Anole for Amazing X-Men #13, and Nightcrawler for the #14. Christopher Yost isn’t the writer for all of the episodes : James Tynion IV wrote #13, and the story is wonderful. Touching, moving, sobering about differences like mutankind and choices in life, this episode is by far my favorite in the entire series.
