Uncanny Avengers

Uncanny Avengers, created by Rick Remender and John Cassaday, is an other comic book series following the events of Avengers versus X-Men, just like All New X-Men. After Cyclops has gone mad possessed by the Phoenix force and killed the professor Xavier, he was arrested by the allied forces of Hope Summers and the Scarlet Witch. Instead of discriminate all of the mutants for the actions of one of them, Captain America – Steve Rogers – decided to reunite a new Avengers squad, compound of both heroes and mutants. He chose not to be the leader of this new team, and entrusted its leadership to Alexander Summers himself, Scott’s younger brother. The original members of the team are, besides Captain America and Havok, Rogue, Scarlet Witch, Thor and Wolverine. soon joined by Wasp, Wonder Man and Sunfire. Their goal was to prove that mutants and heroes can work together to make the world a better place, and that the actions of a single man can’t justify the hatred towards the mutants and the racism.

With Rick Remender as the author of the series, we expected many adventures, treasons and surprising deaths, but not at this scale. He already amazed us with his run on Uncanny X-Force (2010-2012), killing and resurrecting a young Apocalypse, making Angel a real-life Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde with his other personality Archangel, before transforming him into Apocalypse’s heir and the new archenemy of Uncanny X-Force. If you had not read this yet, I strongly recommend you to do so. Furthermore, the arts are astonishing, drawn by such incredible artists as Jerome Opena, Billy Tan and Phil Noto.

But let’s get back on track. During their adventures, the Uncanny Avengers have had to fight against Red Skull and the Apocalypse Twins – twins whose parents are to be discovered in Uncanny X-Force. Their final enemy was Red Onslaught, a powerful creature born thanks to Red Skull’s apparent death caused by a raging Magneto. These events are told in AXIS, a crossover between the mutants and the Avengers, which is not a flashback before Avengers versus X-Men. The world once again has evolved, some heroes are no longer heroes, some villains are not longer evil.

Counter Earth – Uncanny Avengers vol.2 #1-5

Following the events of AXIS, a new team of Uncanny Avengers starts looking for the missing Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Their world is upside down : the man they thought was their father is really not ! How is this possible ? Who could have lied to them like this ? Their only hope to find the truth led them to Counter Earth, the realm of the High Evolutionary.

An imperfect union – Uncanny Avengers vol.3 #1

The Unity Squad is back, with less traditional heroes and more subversive people, such as the mutant Rogue, the NuHuman Synapse or the deadly Deadpool. Lead by an old Steve Rogers, who’s no longer Captain America, the team’s goal is to prove that the Inhumans, just like the mutants, are no threat to the common men. Unfortunately, their first enemy seems to be a NuHuman with a terrible goal : eradicate the human being for the safety of the planet. This ecologist message resonates in the actual wordlwide politics and the concerns of more and more people.
